Find the Best Juicer for You
I’ve been asked before, what’s the best juicer? Like every good answer, I respond with, “it depends”. Finding the best juicer depends on a number of things. Objectively, do I think there are a few juicers that are better than the rest? Of course I do. However, the best juicer for you is the one that gets used and works for you.
If you’re outgoing and need a juice fast, then a centrifugal juicer will fit your lifestyle better than a masticating one. Someone who plans on juicing leafy greens will want a juicer that will maximize that expensive produce.
There are a few questions to ask yourself before buying a juicer.
- Will I be juicing often or once in a while?
- How long do I plan on juicing for? Are you just trying it out or do you plan on juicing for life?
- What will I be juicing? Leafy greens, oranges, assorted veggies?
- What’s my budget?
Will You be Juicing Often?
This one’s pretty simple, but you want to ask yourself this question to gauge your interest in juicing. If you plan on juicing multiple times a week then your interest in juicing is high. I’d suspect someone juicing multiple times a week will want to do that for several years into the foreseeable future.
If this is the case, then you’ll want a quality juicer that can handle a bit of abuse and a good warranty. I’m a big fan of the Omega juicers.
The J8006 being the best of the lot.
How Long Do You Plan on Juicing For?
This ties into the last question. If you plan on juicing, in some capacity, for the next 5-10 years then quality and warranty are a big factor. Without factoring in the price, you want to look at a quality juicer like an Omega masticating juicer.
I prefer the J8006 . I’ve done a full review of it here.
Omega is a great prosumer company for juicers. They have an excellent warranty. 15 years on the J8004/J8006 and 10 years on the J8003/J8005.
They are easy to clean, have excellent build quality and are highly efficient juice extractors.
What Will You Be Juicing?
If you plan on juicing any amount of leafy greens, then the best juicer to get is a masticating one.
Masticating juicers (like the Omega) produce up to 50% more juice than centrifugal juicers. If you plan on juicing a lot this will add up over time.
Especially because leafy greens tend to be the most expensive and lowest yielding veggies out there. Every last drop of juice counts.
Over time, the extra yield you get from a masticating juicer will add up. This is despite the fact that masticating juicers almost always cost more than centrifugal juicers.
Which brings me to the next point on cost.
Best Juicer for Your Budget?
For someone who is interested in juicing, but not $300 dollars for a juicer interested, there are some options available. There are some decent centrifugal juicers. While they won’t give you the yield or quality that an Omega will. They will juice in a fast easy manner.
While these are both centrifugal juicers, they are on the higher end of the spectrum. They are a great starting point, but in the long run, they lack the functionality I prefer in an everyday juicer.
The Hamilton Beach Big Mouth comes with a standard 1-year warranty, and the Breville Compact Juice Fountain comes with a 6-month warranty. Again, both good for starting out or for casual juicing once a month.
The Hamilton Beach is $49 and the Breville is $99.
On the surface, this seems like a great deal, and at the start it is. This goes back to the previous question of “How long do you plan on juicing for?”
A heavy juicer while not only outgrow both of these juicers but actually start to lose money after a year of use. This is strictly due to the yield you get from each juicer. This cannot be understated.
A centrifugal juicer on average will produce 30% less than a masticating juicer. With expensive leafy greens like Kale, that number jumps to 50%!
If you plan on juicing at least twice a week you can reasonably expect to pay back an Omega J8006 within a year. If you want to see all the math broken down for yourself it’s all in my review here.
