Adrafinil vs Modafinil: The Smart Drug Showdown

It’s time for a showdown between two drugs that essentially do the same thing. Welcome to the Adrafinil vs Modafinil fight!

Prior to beginning the showdown, it’s important to note that Modafinil and Adrafinil are essentially the same thing. It’s simply the delivery of the nootropics themselves that makes them different. While Modafinil goes straight to the bloodstream and then straight to your brain, Adrafinil comes in a capsule and must first metabolize in your body.

What Do Adrafinil and Modafinil Even Do?

They make you really, really smart.

That’s a very surface level introduction, but it’s what it is. Both of these drugs give you an incredible amount of focus, concentration, and stamina to just work, work, work. If you’ve ever seen the movie Limitless, starring Bradley Cooper, it’s a similar effect—though not quite as pronounced.

The things you can accomplish while you’re on either of these nootropics is incredible. I’ve personally written an entire 30,000 word book in one day. Anytime that I’m utilizing either of these performance-enhancing nootropics, there is absolutely no limit to what I can accomplish.

Adrafinil vs Modafinil: The Speed of Effect

Here’s the important thing to note about these smart drugs. If you use them, you need to be prepared to sit down and hustle for a long time. Certainly different people have different reactions to them, but there’s a good chance you’re going to have the effects of it for at least a few hours.

This means that you won’t want to be bothered by mundane tasks, or to be tempted by social offers or gathering. This is the time to get work done.

It’s key to note that since Adrafinil has to metabolize in your system, it may be up to an hour or two before you start to feel the effects. It’s common for me to take Adrafinil at 7am, and not start to really feel it until almost 9am. On the other hand, once I take Modafinil, I feel the effects coming on within about 20-30 minutes.

This means that if you plan to take Adrafinil (and it’s definitely easier and more “legal” to get), you may have to factor in an extra hour or two that you may feel the effect. If you want to truly start your work day at 8am, you probably want to be taking the pill by 7am at the latest.

Adrafinil vs Modafinil: Which Has a More Drastic Effect?

This is something that’s incredibly hard to give a “scientific” report on. Yes, I’m doing a bit of bro-science here. Everybody is going to react differently, and one size does not fit all. The effectiveness you receive from is going to depend on:

  • Your general receptiveness to the drug(s), which is completely random.
  • Your overall weight and body fat percentage.
  • Whether or not you eat while you take these nootropics.
  • Any other supplements you might take with it, such as coffee or kratom.

From my personal experience, I can definitely say that Modafinil has a more drastic effect than Adrafinil.

No matter the dosage I take of Adrafinil, it just never seems to hit me as hard as Moda does. There’s times when I’m on Modafinil that I truly just feel like I am the baddest boss in the world. There is nothing I can’t accomplish, and I usually set out everything I want to do (and more).

It’s safe to say that I feel the Modafinil for hours on end.

On the other hand, Adrafinil seems to have a slow burn.

Not only does it take longer to actually take effect, but it just seems like it never hits as hard. I never feel truly as plugged in and focused when I take Adrafinil. I attribute part of this due to simply having to wait for the effect. When I roll over at 6am on a Modafinil day, I’m ready to go.

If I have to wait two hours for Adrafinil to kick in, I’ve already lost some of my momentum for the day. Versus when I take Modafinil, the effect is coursing through my blood by the time I’ve brewed a cup of coffee.

(I roll out of bed, pop the Modafinil, brush my teeth and get dressed, then head downstairs for coffee and start working. By the time I do all this the Moda has started to take effect.)

Adrafinil vs Modafinil, Conclusion

The showdown between the two super drugs (read about Adderall here) can really be summed up in this:

They’re the same thing, and one is definitely superior to the other. I know I’m also not the only one that thinks this. Nearly everyone I know that has used Modafinil prefers it to Adrafinil, hands-down.

They draw the same conclusions I have between Modafinil vs Adrafinil. Moda is faster to take effect, a stronger effect, and overall just a better experience. However, there is one key point that may make you prefer Adrafinil.

The fact that it’s legal and available easily online.

Sure, it’s easy to buy Modafinil online. And I’m about to even give you a link pointing you exactly where to buy it. However, in many cases, it’s still “illegal”. Are you going to have drug-sniffing dogs showing up to your house if you buy Moda? Not likely. However, it still is technically illegal. It’s worth noting that.

Adrafinil, on the other hand, you’ll never have to worry about. It’s 100% legal (in the United States) to order it and have it shipped directly to your house. No discreet packaging or anything.

With that being said, it’s very easy to get a Modafinil prescription—and Biology Boost has an upcoming post about that, too. That’s something to consider if you can make a good case to your doctor for needing Modafinil. However, even if that’s approved you never know how much money your insurance will cover for you, or if you’ll have to pay out of pocket. If forced to pay out of pocket, you’re probably better off just ordering it online from Singapore—but your mileage may vary.

In conclusion, you really can’t go wrong with when it comes to Adrafinil vs Modafinil. Both will help you focus and become more productive in both big projects and day-to-day tasks.

Our general advice here at Biology Boost would be to buy Modafinil if you can, but Adrafinil is certainly a great alternative if it’s just not feasible. Best of luck, and let us know if you’ve got questions in the comments below.
